Cling film might feel convenient but it’s single-use plastic that often ends up in the bin after just one go. That’s why I brought in beeswax wraps, a reusable, low-waste alternative that keeps food fresh without all the waste.
Beeswax wraps are made from cotton coated with beeswax, tree resin and natural oils. They’re breathable, slightly sticky and can be shaped with the warmth of your hands to cover bowls, wrap sandwiches or keep cut fruit fresh.
How I use them:
– Covering half-cut fruits and vegetables
– Wrapping bread rolls, sandwiches or cheese
– Placing over bowls instead of plastic wrap
Why they work well:
– Reusable for up to a year with proper care
– Breathable, keeping food fresh naturally
– Easy to wash with cool water and mild soap
– 100% biodegradable at the end of life
How to care:
Wash gently in cool water with mild soap, air dry, and store folded. Avoid hot water and direct heat, as this can melt the wax. When they’ve reached the end of their life, use them as food covers for non-messy items until they’re too worn, then place them in the general waste bin. Even there, they create far less harm than cling film because they’re made from natural materials.
Beeswax wraps are not about being perfect. They’re about making everyday choices that reduce waste in the kitchen. And once you start, you won’t miss the cling film.
